Charity Woodrum will discuss the documentary film, Space, Hope, and Charity

Dr. Charity Woodrum is a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, working as part of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) team. She is also a member of JWST’s Near-IR Camera (NIRCam) science team and the JADES collaboration. Previously, she was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Arizona’s Steward Observatory where she earned her PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics working with Professor Marcia Rieke. she earned a B.S. in Physics at the University of Oregon, where she conducted research with Dr. Scott Fisher and Dr. Inger Jørgensen.

A member of AAUW Oregon Online Branch, Dr. Woodrum will share her personal journey from her roots through poverty in rural Oregon near Canyonville and tragedy to studying the stars at the Goddard Space Flight Center as a member of the NASA team. The film is inspiring, highlighting resilience, women in STEM, the wonder of astronomy, and the life-changing power of human connection. It has won several awards. Her documentary, Space, Hope and Charity, is available to purchase HERE on DVD.

She has also agreed to talk about her work on the James Webb Space Telescope. Dr. Woodrum will take questions from the audience after her presentation.
